Tyson Bagent making a statement, will there be a QB battle in Chicago?

Could his first career NFL start and incredible performance put him at QB1?

Tyson Bagent making his first career start in the NFL as the QB for the Chicago Bears after Justin Fields was ruled out inactive for the Bears vs Raiders game, so they looked no further then there 2nd string QB Tyson Bagent after proving to be QB2 over PJ Walker, let’s not forget that Bagent did participate in the NFL combine but he was not selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, some might say that is suprising since he was one of the most amazing QB in college football history even hitting NCAA’s all time record for most career touchdowns which he had 159 TDs, he was just a D-II starter in 2022 and then comes in this game against the raiders as starting QB and just proves himself and what he can do. He was 21/29 on completions, 1 TD pass, 3 attempt rushes for 24 yards averaging 8 yards per carry, and a 97.2 QB rating.

“Don’t ever let anybody’s opinion stop you from chasing what you want” - Tyson Bagent.

You can see the passion he has for the game, he had his family and friends watching him he play, buying a total of 53 tickets to see his first NFL start. His head coach and teammates had great things to say about his performance, it’s not everyday you see a young rookie QB come in and do what he did against the Raiders, he has proven that he has what it takes, the way he played, played smooth, did not panic, he kept calm and just did what QB should do. He led the team to 3 TDS in the game. Also not only did he get the win over the Raiders but this date October 22nd is a mark of 1 year ago on that day Tyson led Shepherd University to a win against West Chester University in DII where he had 296 passing yard and 3 touchdowns beating West Chester University 47-14. So as we can see October 22nd is a special day for Tyson having 2 successful and meaningful wins in back to back years.

Now, let’s get into Tyson Bagent and Justin Fields, it was reported that going into week 8 that Tyson will be named starter as QB while Justin Fields continues to recover from his thumb injury. Bears are 1-13 with Justin Fields over last 14 games, while Tyson comes in for his first NFL start and easily gets a win. Don’t get me wrong Just Fields is a great QB he has proven in different ways his skills as QB, but is it enough? Fields has just been struggling lately getting anything done, or leading Bears to wins. If Bagent continues playing how he played against the Raiders I would not be surprised if he continues at QB1 for the remaining of the season, Bears need to find that spark in the offense, something that will give them hope for a better season.

Going into week 8 we will see how Tyson Bagent and the Bears will go up against the Chargers who also have been struggling having a 2-4 record losing last week to the Chiefs allowing 483 yards, 415 passing yards and 68 rushing yards.

Will Tyson Bagent prove himself once again? Stick around to find out as we will keep you updated next week as Tyson takes on another opportunity as QB1 vs the Chargers!
